Book Review of The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain
The Prince and the Pauper is a fiction written by Mark Twain. It was published by Lerner
Publishing Group.
It begins with the story of Edward who was the heir of Britain Kingdom
and Tom Canty who came from a poor family. Tom was so impressed with the
teaching of Father Andrew that he started dreaming about becoming a prince till
he finally reached the palace. Prince Edward had compassion on Tom and decided
to switch their position with Edward as a pauper and Tom as a prince.
In the Royal Kingdom Tom was very happy in the
beginning but later on began to realise the difficulties posing as a
prince. On the other side Edward
arriving at Tom’s house was ill treated and had to suffer injustice. Luckily,
he was found by Milles Hendon, a royal servant of Edward. He saved Edward’s
life and brought him to kingdom safely.
At
the time King Henry VIII had passed away and his position had to be replaced by
his heir. Tom Canty as a ‘fake’ prince could not reveal the truth. Before the
Coronation was started, Edward appeared and told the truth which was not
believed by the family. Fortunately, he could show where the seal was and thus
Edward was crowned the king of England.
What I like about the Book is It is a nice
story illustrated with pictures. What I didn’t like about the book is the
language at some points is difficult to understand. I would like to rate this
book 3/5
