Pride and Prejudice Book Review by Coralann Rebello - 44- S.Y.B.ED 2019-21
Pride
and Prejudice is a well known romantic novel, written by the well known novelist
Jane Austen. A very well known
personality of her time. She has written many novels like Emma, Sense and
Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield
park, Becoming Jane and many more of which Pride and Prejudice is the most
famous. Her novels mainly focus on the
life of the British in the 18th Century. Her novels are mainly based
on the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of social and economic
stability.
In
the well known novel Pride and Prejudice
Jane Austen has given us very
strong women protagonists through the character of Elizabeth Bennet. The story
revolves mainly around the life of the
Bennet family. Since they belong to a
lower strata of society the Mother is always worried to settle of her daughters
to well off families. Elizabeth Bennet
however seems to be the most sensible and strong character who knows what she
wants in life and in that era rejects proposals from the male sex. She very strongly puts up her point to the man
whom she doesn’t love. She is then introduced to Mr. Darcy who is a bit allof
and doesn’t mix about much with people. He later gets attracted towards
Elizabeth and can’t resist proposing Elizabeth but Elizabeth rejects it. Darcy
kept helping Elizabeth even though she rejected him . What will her decision be
will she accept the proposal?
I love the way the women in that era were bold
enough to keep up to their etiquette’s
and very strongly decide who is the perfect match for them.
The
novel primely focuses on the idea that you should marry a person for love and
not social status.
I
would like to conclude with the words of Jane Austen
“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom
I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it;
and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters,
and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or
sense.”
