Book Review by Amruta Victor Pereira, Roll No- 41, SYBEd 2019-21

Little women is a story of 4 sisters named Margaret called as Meg, Josephine called as Jo, Elizabeth called as Beth and youngest one was Amy, living with their mother Mrs. March in their house with maid Hannah who was more like family member now as she was there with them since many years. Their father Mr. March was in Army fighting. They were not rich and they felt bad sometimes about it but they were contended with whatever they had mostly because they had each other for moral support.

In this story many different characters are shown with different personalities which even we face in our day to day life. There is at least one character to which you will get attached, as it almost resembles you or you would related to each character at something or the other point or quality.

As this story deals with daily struggles of life  it becomes interesting as we go on reading it with each passing page.

The four girls called their mother as " Marmee" in this book. They highly respected their mother and inspired her, as she was their pillar of support with their father not around them. Their mother on other hand always told them stories with very good values of life. And not only that but, made them put into action too. One such incident is that even though they were poor, Christmas morning was the only morning when they used to have good breakfast with lot of Christmas sweets, but once on Christmas their mother asked them to sacrifice their mouth-watering breakfast to the poor family Little away from their house, who didn't had even wood in the house to save themselves from freezing cold on Christmas morning, that family had 6 children and mother with new born also had nothing to eat. All the Girls put their big girl socks on and took everything to that poor family and fed all the children and also their mother. Whenever their mother asked them to do something they never refused.

They used to eagerly wait for their father's letter and used to behave good only for their father and he called his all 4 daughters as his "little women". They used to listen and respect their mother because father told them to do so. Every time they used to get letter from their father they became emotional and read with love and also feeling of longing for their father.

This book further deals with various phases of life, which March family goes through. It includes all fours girl's personal life which also includes Meg's love life and Jo's book publication. Beth also catches viral fever and doesn’t get full recovered through it. Amy works with old  aunt March where Jo used to work previously.

Amidst of this their family gets bad news of their Dad getting sick which makes everyone in the worried. Their Marmee goes to nurse Mr. March and stays with him.

This is how with various twists and turns in life of 4 girls and their family how they stay together and overcome their difficulties with love and care for one another even if it takes their sacrifice they did it willingly.

This book on my personal note influenced me a lot to stay strong in life and be with your family and support them as they are the ones who stay with you through thick and thin.
