Book Review of Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Sense
and sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen, published in 1811. It is one of her
six world famous Novel. The novel is likely set in southwest England, London,
and Sussex between 1792 and 1797. The satirical, comic work offers a vivid
depiction of the 19thcentury middle class life as it follows the
romantic relationships of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood.
Sense
and sensibility is a heartwarming tale of two sisters, Elinor and Marianne, and
their navigation through the roadblocks on their path to love. One of them is
emotionally weak and impulsive in her demeanor while the other is subtle and
stable in hiding her emotional disappointment. How do they find their love
amidst the clamor of love and status is highlighted in book.
At
the beginning I felt the story was little confusing as there were many
characters, but later on it was easy to understand. If there was one thing I
enjoyed about this book, it is the way it uses the morals and values of English
country life. Another thing I liked is the building up of the characters. The
only thing I didn’t liked was that the male characters were badly drawn and
sometimes disappeared from view.
Overall
it is a very good book and for me reading it was a pleasing experience. True to
its title, this novel teaches how both sense, as well as sensibility, is
important to find happiness.
