The title instantly grabs interest as it sounds quite a lot adventurous and appealing to readers who are well-accustomed to the genre of fiction books. The cover and its illustrations are quite classy and not too showy which gives us the tone of the story background being patterned and basic.
The story begins by defining a persona of an intellectual person, Newit Anatole Lobe who has achieved many merits and laurels in his years of study and research. He is ingenious and has successfully delivered lectures in prestigious universities all over the world, and has come out as an expert in his area of academic discipline. But the downfall in his marital commitment led him to land in his home country, a small colonial French town in Africa named Cameon. Professor Newit Anatole Lobe after his studies shortly was married but failed in it and thus he decided to return to his home country to work in the county's main University with a motive to be able to serve his country with his innate giftedness. The emotional instincts are so placidly put forth by the writer that it intertwines the reader’s affectiveness towards the protagonist’s emotions and challenges.
The book portrays a perfect picturesque of Newit's life by the description of his reflective thoughts as well as elucidates the people around him. The insights that this book provides is peculiar as Newit holds honesty as his prime mannerism. Even though faced with trials and tribulations to the point of a near-death encounter as a result of a betrayal, he admits to his values and remains true to them. He learns the hard fact that loyalty is not always appreciated by all and grieves that he should have learned and written it on the walls of his mind before times to avoid any more tribulations. Further on, even after being detained from his Job as a Professor he still attains peace in the arms of his new family, old treasured friendships and rejuvenates his soul by meeting his son who was abandoned of his Paternal care for 21 years.
The book is very well articulated and is value-laden which makes the story of Professor impeccable. Just to side note – the reader may find some concepts that needed interlinks were broken down abruptly, some more descriptions would have been better, also in a meagre but noticeable way it describes the woman in a bad picture and as an object of pleasure, such instances should be avoided in books to create the healthy, societal environment.
But it’s a good read to understand the
oppressions that humanity suffers through and pledges us to oblige to our
principles in life no matter the circumstances.
