LETTERS OF TWO BRIDES By HONORE DE BALZAC

Book Review Of LETTERS OF TWO BRIDES By HONORE DE BALZAC

Letters of Two Brides was written by author Honore de Balzac, and was published in the year 1842 in the language French. Later in the year 1902 the book was published in English.

The main story revolves around two young French women. The name of the two women were Louise de Chaulieu and Renee de Maucombe. These two women despite belonging to different families and societies become close friends during the time at the Carmelite convent which is at Bois. They both shared a strong friendship during their convent days. After leaving the convent, both of their lives moved into different paths and changed completely. Even after leaving the convent, their friendship continued for many years.

After several years leaving the convent, due to certain family and societal conditions Louise was forced to become the Carmelite nun, which she never intended to become. By fortune her grandmother rescues her and makes her financially independent. Then Louise chooses to live the life which she intended to. Later she settles in Paris and falls in love with Henarez Baron, and they both get married. But in 1829 he dies leaving Louise to be a widow.

On the other hand, Rene’s attitude and way of leading life was totally different from that of Louise. After leaving the convent, Rene marries an old man having little wealth. She bears three children and gradually starts loving her husband and family more than anything. She helps her husband to succeed in his works. Rene believed that true happiness for a woman lies in motherhood and devotion to her family.

Later after several years, Louise gets married again but she does not bear any children. But after several years she finds out that her husband is cheating her. But the truth was that, her husband was helping a widow, rather than cheating her. Knowing the truth Rene rushes to Louise to tell the truth. But Louise has already committed suicide and dies a few days later.
