Prati Din Vaachan Din - 19th June 2021

On the Occasion of Vaachan din, St. Teresa’s Institute of Education and Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt. Surajba College of Education jointly conducted an event, ‘Prati Din Vaachan din’ on importance of everyday reading. The webinar started with a beautiful song that evoked the spirit of Knowledge and created a perfect atmosphere to start with.

The Principal of St. Teresa’s Institute of education, Dr. Sr. Tanuja Waghmare said the prayer as well as with a warm heart, welcomed the honored chief guest Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar (professor and HOD of library and information Sciences of Savitri bai Phule, Pune university) and the audience of the webinar. This was followed by Dr. Shakuntala Nighot, librarian in charge at St. Teresa’s Institute, giving a brief information about the NDLI (National Digital Library of India), and the NDLI club. She also welcomed Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar as the chief guest and the speaker for the day. In his presence, the inauguration for NDLI club of both the colleges took place.

Dr. Pradnya Bhosekar called upon Dr. Shakuntala Nigot to introduce the speaker, Dr. Rajendra Kumbhar. He was introduced as a Professor and HOD of Library and Information sciences at the Pune University. Dr. Nigot also spoke on his experience within conferences, seminars, paper presentations, writing and guiding in research methods, posts in various important committees, his role as a guide to PHD scholars, as an author, etc. The stage was then over to him for encouraging and motivating the audience to read more.

Dr. Rajendra’s speech on Importance of reading could clearly reflect his interest and love for reading books. He rightly said that Reading cannot be a one-day celebration, it is from breath to breath, Reading is life and life is reading. He emphasized on his statements by given the audience a fact that people those who have a regular reading habit obtain great marks in exams like the GRE. He also stated that when readers speak, appropriate words flow out from their speech, such a speaker continues and the listener immediately marks him as a good reader. As teachers he urged all to be good readers, as sometimes students try to imitate the teachers and also their reading habits.

Her further said that the World now is full of distractions and people need the power of concentration which can be achieved by reading. He emphasized on reading between the lines. Dr Rajendra Kumbhar said we are living in 21st century, we call it a digital world. Everyone is engaged in social media, may be on the laptop, playing the games, on the website reading articles, watching videos, listening songs etc. On social media you are trying hard to actually concentrate but ultimately solution is here in the form of reading particularly really printed books they actually have no side effects. Reading helps develop analytical skills in the modern day. Greater the reading greater the analytical ability that comes to you to understand those micro points from the text between the lines when it comes when you read.

Dr Rajendra Kumbhar said the purpose of education is to create thinking generation and to activate the brain which comes only from the reading. 6 minutes reading helps you to reduce 68% stress. Reading a book change our personalities. Books are the tools which will help us to virtual tour of the world. Reading absolutely has no side effects. Dr Rajendra Kumbhar said but what should we read actually is which will help you to benefit your life and the life of the others. He mentioned some of the books like “ To Serve With Love”, “Super Thirty”, “Teach like a Champion”, “ The Book is for us”, Teaching Kids to Think”, “The Alchemist”, “United Minds”, “Man Me Hai Vishwaas”, Robin Sharma’s books are also the greatest books like “Master Mind.”

Doctor Rajendra Kumbhar encouraged each one of us to join the public library NDLI which will help each one teach one us. He says don’t wait for the reading day to come start from today onwards. He wished each one of us to be the reading model for the students.

Dr Judy Grace Andrew the principal said books are the change makers. Parent should read aloud when children are small. Books are something that takes us beyond. Books are something from the womb to the tomb. She thanked the doctor Rajendra Kumbhar for his inspiring talk.

Anushree expressed her gratitude to Dr Rajendra Kumbhar on behalf of everyone and thanked the both the colleges Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt. Surajba College of Education and our college St. Teresa's Institute of Education and each staff.
