Memorable Teachers Day-Dr. Shakuntala Nighot

Delighted to be a part of Innovative Teachers’ Day Celebration organised on 5th August 2020 by prestigious  Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS) and the Informatics, India Group, Bangalore. A very fruitful DIALOGUE between Library and Information Science Teachers and Practicing Librarians on

Re-imagining the LIS Education in the Current Era.

The 12 alumni (including Myself Dr. Shakuntala Nighot), who have graduated from various LIS Schools, and now active as professionals in various types of libraries across  India, reflected on their curriculum and education and shared their views on how the curricula and the pedagogy shaped their thinking, trained, and prepared them for their careers as librarians. They also shared the lacunae/inadequacies on their professional experience in terms of key foundational leanings (philosophy/outlook; domain knowledge; and skill sets) that they found to be useful in delivering on the job, similarly, inadequacies of the LIS education in meeting their professional challenges, where they felt themselves lacking.

Four eminent LIS educators across India, including Dr. K. P. Singh, Dr. Swapna Banerjee, Dr. Sampath Kumar, and Dr. Sarika Sawant, as panelists reflected on the issues, questions raised by discussants, LIS education and training today . Session was moderated by Eminent LIS Scholar and Educator Prof. Shalini Urs.

This dialogue will be surely helpful in coming out with a re-imagined LIS Education Program as an integral part of the New Education Policy 2020.

Thank You Team SRELS and Informatics India especially Prof. Raghavan, Prof. Shalini, Prof. Satyanarayan for organising such a wonderful program and giving us the opportunity to be a part of it !
