Hindi Divas Activity

The Constituent Assembly of India had espoused Hindi as India’s official language on 14th September,1949. To show its significance and to celebrate its mark of acknowledgment, we commemorate Hindi Diwas on 14 September every year. Hindi is one of the two official languages of the Union Government which is written in Devanagri script.

STIE Library and NDLI Club has celebrated Hindi Divas on 19th august 2020, by organising following  activities in virtual mode on Google meet during  2pm-4pm. 48 Students of SYBEd Batch participated in both the activities.

1. राष्ट्रभाषा और उसका ज्ञान जरुरी है !" विचारमंथन गतिविधि

Through this brainstorming activity students put forth their views on Importance of National Language and why the citizens should have knowledge of their national language?

2. NDLI Resources in HINDI: Information Retrieval Competition

Students attempted this Google Quiz with real time information search and retrieval on National Digital Library Portal. Questions were based on the NDLI Information Resources in Hindi language.

Objective behind these activities was to create awareness about OER like NDLI, to encourage them to access the NDLI resources.

As a result of comprehensive NDLI orientation conducted, 9 students scored 100% marks in the quiz.  Students were amazed to explore the various rich resources of NDLI like Textbooks, Novels, Children Literature, Plays, Music and many more in various formats such as  Text, Audios and Videos.

Memorable Teachers Day-Dr. Shakuntala Nighot

Delighted to be a part of Innovative Teachers’ Day Celebration organised on 5th August 2020 by prestigious  Sarada Ranganathan Endowment for Library Science (SRELS) and the Informatics, India Group, Bangalore. A very fruitful DIALOGUE between Library and Information Science Teachers and Practicing Librarians on

Re-imagining the LIS Education in the Current Era.

The 12 alumni (including Myself Dr. Shakuntala Nighot), who have graduated from various LIS Schools, and now active as professionals in various types of libraries across  India, reflected on their curriculum and education and shared their views on how the curricula and the pedagogy shaped their thinking, trained, and prepared them for their careers as librarians. They also shared the lacunae/inadequacies on their professional experience in terms of key foundational leanings (philosophy/outlook; domain knowledge; and skill sets) that they found to be useful in delivering on the job, similarly, inadequacies of the LIS education in meeting their professional challenges, where they felt themselves lacking.

Four eminent LIS educators across India, including Dr. K. P. Singh, Dr. Swapna Banerjee, Dr. Sampath Kumar, and Dr. Sarika Sawant, as panelists reflected on the issues, questions raised by discussants, LIS education and training today . Session was moderated by Eminent LIS Scholar and Educator Prof. Shalini Urs.

This dialogue will be surely helpful in coming out with a re-imagined LIS Education Program as an integral part of the New Education Policy 2020.

Thank You Team SRELS and Informatics India especially Prof. Raghavan, Prof. Shalini, Prof. Satyanarayan for organising such a wonderful program and giving us the opportunity to be a part of it !

As You Like It - William Shakespeare

Book Review of As You Like It by William Shakespeare

As You Like It is one of the finest works by William Shakespeare,  published in 1623. The story is set in the Forest of Arden, where the banished Duke from a kingdom in France, is living in exile. Orlando, the youngest son of Sir Rowland de Boys, escapes from his treacherous brother and ends up in the Forest where he meets his lover Rosalind, the daughter of former Duke. The major twist to the story is that Rosalind is disguised as a man and Orlando doesn’t recognise her till the end of the plot. It also introduces us to a variety of characters, including a shepherdess who falls for Rosalind, and the plot lays great emphasis on different forms of love. To see how the story unfolds from the tragic events,  keeps the reader hooked till the end. Adam, the faithful servant who accompanies Orlando, portrays a model of loyalty and devoted service. ACT II, Scene VII features one of the most famous monologues - All The World’s A Stage, which focuses on the seven stages in a person’s lifespan. The character Jacques, adds a melancholic touch to the story and that blends with the humour set throughout the book. If you enjoy reading Shakespeare’s work, this book is a must read!
