Amrut Deshmukh is a chartered accountant, social entrepreneur and a TEDx speaker. Now with Booklet, he is determined to achieve the mission 'Make India Read' and revolutionise reading in India. He is also known for reviving the reading habit through book summaries. Every week he reads a bestselling book and prepares a twenty-minute book summary of it. Queries and doubts of how to inculcate reading habits was been catered. The book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Readers", author itself Amrut Deshmukh is building a way in continuing on the mission to cultivate the habit of reading amongst the youth of India. This session surely has build up a positive attitude and many more will now tune in to reading and growing in a best possible way.
This booklet guy is a spirit that believes books can make us think differently. Reading habits can help us grow rich in health, wealth, love and happiness by making us, empathetic humans. Formal Language for Research Writing
St. Teresa’s Institute of Education in collaboration with Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan's Smt. Surajba College of Education had organized a webinar on Formal Language for Research Writing. The webinar was conducted via Google Meet on 23rd March, 2021. The students had to pre-register for the webinar via a link provided. The key resource person was Dr. Perin Marolia, an Academic Editor.
The webinar began with a short prayer by our principal Dr. Sr. Tanuja Waghmare. Thereafter we were given a brief Introduction about the resource person, Dr. Perin Marolia who was a Visiting Faculty and a Ph.D. guide at SNDT Women’s University. She had a Ph.D. degree in Library Science from SNDT WU Mumbai and was also an Editor for Research thesis and other types of Academic and Professional Writing. Ma’am Marolia gave a detailed information on how a Research writing was different from Essay writing. She focused on the clarity and precision needed in Research Writing. With the help of examples, she explained the right use of formal words, vocabulary, sentence structure and tenses. This was followed by a detailed explanation on some conventions on Research Writing namely Consistency, Voice, use of abbreviations and rules for writing numbers. The examples for each idea made the concept much clear and easy to follow. At the end she gave a gist on the use of Thesaurus, Grammarly and the MS Word Spellcheck, highlighting the drawbacks and merits of each.
Ma’am Perin then conducted a live quiz with a few thought-provoking questions based on the content covered in the webinar. The quiz was for 12 marks and it was super exciting as everyone could participate and had to put on their thinking caps to answer the questions. This webinar will be highly beneficial and helpful in writing our Action Research project as it gave an insight into how research papers are intended to demonstrate a student’s academic knowledge of a subject, but the quality of the research paper also lies in the use of clear and concise language.
The principal of Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan's Smt. Surajba College of Education, Dr. Judy Grace Andrews extended her heartfelt gratitude to the resource person and to all the students and faculty members. The webinar ended with a formal Vote of Thanks by Ms. Evita, student of Gandhi Shikshan College of Education which was followed by the National Anthem.
We are grateful to Dr. Sr. Tanuja Waghmare, for giving us the opportunity to be a part of this webinar and to Ma’am Dr. Shakuntala Nighot for taking the initiative in organizing and hosting a successful webinar.
